Alfaaz (n.): Urdu for spoken word; the distinguishing factor that makes us undeniably human. Much like humans themselves, language constantly evolves along with us. Today, we have diluted language to mere catchphrases and hashtags, compressed to fit 140 characters. As the number of characters get smaller, the distance between us grows larger. Social media seems to have eased communication, but our relationships have only gotten shallower. Alfaaz was our attempt to explore this tumultuous relationship between words and us by uncovering different hidden layers in our new age lingo. Taking inspiration from the favoured language of the millenials, each piece was a deconstruction and intimate interpretation of a specific popular hashtag aimed at challenging our audience on their understanding of the hashtags.
